Onegin at The Royal Ballet, Saturday February 2, 2013.

Sarah Lamb as ‘Tatania’   and Valeri Hristov  as ‘Onegin’ gave us  beautiful  and emotional dancing. But  the true star of the evening is the choreography created by John Cranko during his directorship of the Stuttgart Ballet in 1965.

The role of ‘Tatiana’ is beloved of the world’s great ballerinas, and I am able to bring you a few recorded examples.

A taste of Sarah Lamb:

The first film features Lucia Lacarra with the great pas de deux from ‘Onegin’. She has exquisite line, beautiful footwork and gorgeous lifts :

The Royal Ballet’s own Alina Cojocuru gives a passionate, musical and brilliant performance of the pas de deux:

Finally I have chosen the dainty Alessandra Ferri. The quality of the film is not good, but the dancing is quite delicate and expressive. She has exquisite feet.
